Adjust the figures and the result updates as you type.

An estimate, not tax or legal advice. The TDS figure assumes the new regime, salary as the only income and no investments to declare; your employer's payroll will project it more precisely. Statutory figures are as of 1 November 2026 and are listed below.

How this is calculated

Annual CTC is peeled back to gross, then the employee-side deductions come off gross. Every figure below is visible in the form and can be changed.

  1. Basic = the percentage of CTC you set (default 40%), or the monthly ₹ you type. HRA = the percentage of basic you set (default 50%).
  2. Employer PF = 12% of PF wages, where PF wages are basic capped at the ₹25,000 wage ceiling (ceiling ticked) or full basic (unticked). Of the employer's 12%, 8.33% of wages up to the ceiling goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the rest to the PF account. The ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 on 17 September 2026 under notification S.O. 5109(E).
  3. Gross salary = CTC − employer PF (if inside CTC) − gratuity provision (if ticked, 4.81% of basic) − other employer cost. If monthly gross is ₹21,000 or less and ESI is on, employer ESI at 3.25% of gross also sits inside CTC, so gross = (CTC − those items) ÷ 1.0325.
  4. Special allowance = gross − basic − HRA. If it goes negative, the basic or HRA percentage is too high for this CTC and the page says so.
  5. Employee PF = 12% of the same PF wages. ESI = 0.75% of gross, only when monthly gross is ₹21,000 or less. (ESI eligibility is actually fixed at the start of each six-month contribution period; a mid-period raise past ₹21,000 keeps ESI running until the period ends. The calculator ignores that.)
  6. Professional tax comes from the state table you pick. Monthly-slab states show the regular month's deduction; Maharashtra and Karnataka deduct ₹300 in February to reach ₹2,500 a year, and the annual column reflects that. Half-yearly states (Tamil Nadu, Kerala) and annual-slab states (Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand) are shown as one-sixth or one-twelfth per month. The constitutional ceiling is ₹2,500 a year.
  7. TDS (estimate): taxable income = annual gross − ₹75,000 standard deduction. Slab tax for FY 2026-27 under the new regime: nil to ₹4 lakh, 5% to ₹8 lakh, 10% to ₹12 lakh, 15% to ₹16 lakh, 20% to ₹20 lakh, 25% to ₹24 lakh, 30% above. The Section 87A rebate makes tax nil where taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh, with marginal relief just past it (tax cannot exceed the income above ₹12 lakh). Surcharge applies above ₹50 lakh (10%, 15%, 25% at ₹1 crore and ₹2 crore). Health and education cess of 4% is added. Annual tax ÷ 12 is the monthly TDS. Budget 2026 left these slabs unchanged from FY 2025-26.
  8. Monthly in-hand = gross − employee PF − ESI − professional tax − TDS − other deductions. Annual in-hand uses the exact annual professional tax and the annual tax figure rather than twelve times the monthly.
  9. Total cost to employer = gross + employer PF + employer ESI + gratuity provision + other employer cost. It equals CTC when everything is inside CTC. EDLI and PF administration charges (about 1% of PF wages) are an extra employer cost and are not shown.

FAQ

Common questions

Why is my in-hand so much lower than CTC ÷ 12?

Two layers sit between them. CTC includes money the employer spends that never reaches your account: its PF contribution, sometimes ESI, a gratuity provision and insurance. Then gross loses your own PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS. On a typical ₹8 lakh offer, roughly 89 to 90% of CTC arrives over the year; at ₹15 lakh, tax pulls it closer to 87%.

What did the ₹25,000 PF ceiling change?

From 17 September 2026 the EPF wage ceiling is ₹25,000 a month instead of ₹15,000. If your employer restricts PF to the ceiling, the employee contribution can now reach ₹3,000 a month instead of ₹1,800, which lowers in-hand but raises retirement savings. Anyone earning between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 who was outside PF is now covered. The ESI limit of ₹21,000 did not change.

Does the calculator handle the old tax regime?

No. The TDS line uses the new regime, which is the default and is right for most salaried people without large HRA, 80C and home-loan deductions. If you expect to opt for the old regime, switch TDS off here and work out the HRA exemption with our HRA calculator; your employer will project the rest from your declaration.

Why is professional tax different for Tamil Nadu and Kerala?

Both assess professional tax on six months of income and deduct it once per half-year, so a payslip there may show a larger amount in one month and nothing in others. The calculator spreads the half-yearly figure evenly to make months comparable; the annual column is exact. Tamil Nadu uses the Greater Chennai Corporation table; other corporations in the state differ slightly.

Is variable pay or bonus included?

Enter the fixed CTC only. Variable pay is paid on performance, usually quarterly or annually, and taxed in the month it is paid, so putting it into a monthly figure overstates in-hand. If your offer quotes one CTC with a variable component, subtract the variable part first.

Is anything I type stored or sent?

No. The arithmetic runs in your browser and nothing is posted to a server. The share link encodes your inputs in the URL itself, so anyone you send it to sees the same breakup, and we never see it at all.
